America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
OK NOW WHAT?
Published on June 14, 2005 By Moderateman In Politics
I have been sidelined with the flu and since I have no immune system, anything I catch lays me low.

The question I want to ask is.

OK we close gitmo, now what?

Lets try to keep politics out of this and discuss what do we do with these killers and terrorist, where do they go, home? American prisons? where, at whos expense? who is in charge of them, how do we treat them?

They are to be treated as the terrorists as they are. Why people go out of their way to defend these "people" I just don't get

simple dog, because any and everything AMERICA does is wrong, justr like bush is wrong, our way of life is wrong, our people are wrong remember hating america is a way of mlife for some {most} but then I can see why, there is not a dman thing they can do but whine wring hands and complain.

no, they are being treated a lot better. 3 hots and a flop is not bad when it costs you nothing

america spends more money per meal for terrorist than our own fighting men, because of their special dietary need, I say feed em pig 3 times a day, if they do not wanna eat pig let em starve.

Being on the Political Machine I thought it was funny when the original post asked for this to be a practical discussion, but held my laughs until reaching the end where it has become nothing more than sniping.

On the question of whether Gitmo should be shut down: yes, it should. If you care about our troops you have to recognize that Gitmo has become more of an asset to Iraqi insurgent/terrorist recruiting than it serves as a benefit to American security.

What to do? Put them on trial.

Try them for what? If we have grounds to hold them, we have grounds to try them. The administration has shown itself to be very creative, I'm sure they can come up with something. After all they used their creativity to create the situation at Gitmo that's biting us in the a$$ right now.

If you don't like the fact they are being fed better than our troops contribute to the discussion of how to get them out of there.

And no, killing them would only serve as further proof to the fundamentalists that our country is as evil as they say it is.

Holding them indefinitely is not an option, period.

Finally someone with a couple well thought out ideas, articulatly put forth, sir I salute you>

Just what crime would you charge them with? Found guilty? Of what?

I'm sure there are international laws, therefore international crimes they could be charged with. But locking people up without charge or trial is not the way to go, IMO.

War does NOT go hand in hand with the criminal justice system

If this is the case, then why are there nazi war criminalsstill being pursued by various organisations around the globe?

Lucas, I apologise for not reading your post fully and getting upset because I didn't. Just goes to show what can happen when one goes off half-cocked, right? (This sarcasm is directed solely at me)

Yeah, right. And its this sort of sentiment that sets the rest of the world's teeth on edge. I don't have a problem with being proud of who you are and where you're from but overt egotistical statements like this don't do you any favours.

I know maso, but after reading bash after bash of my country It just kinda gets to me and I lash back. Not saying it's right or wrong to do, just is.

Modman,

Thanks mate. I appreciate your stance, believe me. And I don't blame you one bit for wanting to 'lash back'. I would do the same. But I will always jump on arrogance when I see it and would expect the same treatment should I be so arrogant myself.
