What’s the deal about Coretta Scott King?

If I see one more tribute to the dead wife of slain black leader Martin Luther King I am going to scream.

So what? She died, what’s the big deal? All this flying flags at half-mast for what reason? She was no national hero, She did nothing great, and her big claim to fame is her husband was killed.

Where were all the tributes when Jackie Kennedy died? Where was her body laid in state?

This is just more politically correct garbage; if she were white there would not be such a display.

How have we let America fall into such a place that we “honor” someone not for what she did, but for the color of her skin?

Who the hell is this cmorton? I could go out on a limb here and say he has to be black. Let me tell you all something, I was born in the US but I come from spanish and black backgrounds. For many years I looked at a picture of my grandfather from my moms side and never realized he was black, not even native indian from, he has black in him. Blacks were also slaves in Puerto Rico many years ago, but I see no racism here everyone here has a little bit of everything. I guess because money is more important than skin color here.

Anyways, I myself have always wondered why there is a black history month and not a hispanic history month. I'm not sure why there should be a chinese history month but if there is a good reason then why not. I liveed in black neighborhoods before (meaning where blacks were majority, as in 85%) and I got tired of always hearing them complain about how they are treated bad because they were black. Funny, I got the same treatment as they did, my food would be brought cold at restaurants, they would not attend me immediately at stores, I was looked at as some kind of criminal, etc. Heck, I can say with true honesty that 90% of the time that I went to a fast food where black people were working, it took them too long to serve my food when there was no one in the drive thru before me, and I learn a lot about checking your bags before you leave the drive thru since they messed up my order 75% of the time.

I got nothing against blacks, I get along with anyone who gets along with me. I would love to be with a black girl, I hear they are freaky, I have seen many blacks become people of high positions. But I can't stand it when I hear all this "because I'm black" crap. I'm sure there are a few out there that probably do treat blacks bad because they are black, but does that mean that everyone has to pay for those few?

I admit I am not very trusty with people who had wierd pasts (say LW) and will probably have a very hard time getting along with them, but I can learn with time and eventually learn to trust if the person is genuinely changed. I see LW as a very nice, upfront, honest person who will standup for herself when she has to. And maybe her name may have been a coincidence or on purpose but that does not mean you have the right to insult her in that manner. And that bull about never have done nothing wrong is also bull because just what you have done today is something that many people regret in the future. You assume too much based on what you understand what people are saying or actually just looking for what you wanna see and besically ignoring everything else that will contradict what you are looking for in a person.

You are the most racist person I have seen here, claiming to not be racist while constantly attacking everyone else for the acts of those in the past as if actions are past down as an inheritance. We are no Klingons, we are humans. Those who commit crimes pay for their crimes not their next of kins. Mr. King would be ashamed of having someone like you defend him. This is not what he stood for, he wanted peace between all races, he wanted equality, not just for blacks but for everyone. And this is not what you (cmorton) stand for. Shame on you.

It was a simple question, Why all the fuss? so far none ohe responders from the left have come up with an answer to my query.

I really don't mind that you just spout off all kinds of BS though. I don't come here for the news and the hard facts, I get those from other places. What is the obsession with some of you guys about "proving" everything you say. You're entitled to your opinion, no matter how sick and twisted it may be, just as I do mine.

You know davad, you've got some nerve coming on this blog and saying this crap! If you take the time to read all of his blogs you will see what type of person and thinker he is. He doesn't regurgitate anything! Learn facts before you spit at people. You're right that everyone is entitled to their opinions, and that also means that an individual's opinions doesn't get disrespected the way you're trying to do!

Cmorton, you really need to calm down and stop taking everything at face value. The title of the blog is a question and it is a legitimate one, seeking to understand that which seem unusual. I'm sure many people wondered the very same thing too. Hopefully they got the answers they seek as well. On this blog there were some legit responses and I hope some people learned something from the nonbiased responses.

However for those who took this to the level of racial turmoil it was totally unecessary. Attacking Little Whip, and attacking Elie and Doc too by what I saw, was wrong. You need to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and re-examine that anger you have and that it doesn't take much to set off. Discussions are good and learning something from others you disagree with is good but when it gets to personal attacks, anything you have to say is ignored. And don't let me have to come through the screen and bitch slap you!

I know, but my curious nature will not allow me to ignore such stupidity. Yes stupidity, because he want to make a point and somehow he learned to use words that look like they are smart words and well written and can easily confuse most people while in the end not making a point at all. Kinda like a poker face. I personally can't stand people who thing they are smart because they use big words or words not common in peoples language in order to confuse people and somehow catch you in what they want you to believe is a misyake you made when you really didn't. Did any of this sound right? I feel like I just explain one of those jokes about that guy whos a cousin of a sister of a friend of the mother of a girl I know.

So I guess we should expect Bill Cosby, Walter E. Williams, and Colin Powell lying in state at the end of their lives? Each of these men did at least as much as Coretta Scott King to honor their nation and their heritage. Or are they not "the right kind of "American" to qualify for the new standard?
