America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
SEE what entitlements HAVE WROUGHT

While watching the horror in New Orleans unfold I was struck by several things.

That our government DOES NOT have a handle on disasters, be it of the natural kind or man made {terrorist}
They have been slow in responding and allowed lawlessness to run amok. I am dissappointed in the response time lag.

Then watched as the poor blacks in New Orleans DEMANDED food, money, water.

No they did not ask for help. They behaved like since we are being taken care of by the government, we are entitled to help.

Give me this, give me that.

It's your job to take care of me.

This is the result of generations of people on welfare, they can no longer look out for themselves, they HAVE to be cared for by the rest of us. I for one am tired of having people, DEMAND i take care of them because they are to lazy, to stupid, strung out on drugs or spit babies out with no thought for the child's future.

These same folk DEMANDING aid instead of asking for help are nothing but a drain on society.

I watched looting, now fires in my opinion being set, just to watch things burn.

Black leaders saying if the cities white people needed things they would already be there and the reason things are taking so long is because of covert racism.

I watch the left use this tragedy as another way to launch attacks against the president, the left and black leaders should be ashamed of using this horrific event as a tool for partisan behavior.

I have never been ashamed to be an american but today I am ashamed and disgusted.

I don't agree with feeding off of the government in welfare cases, where people are truly too damn lazy to get off their asses.

Unfortunately people have grown accustomed to the 'guv'ment' babysitting them and consequently have no idea how to make do or fend for themselves.

I wonder sometimes how these folks would have fared back pre-welfare and social security days.

Geez...there can't be anything without mentioning that black's are the ungrateful ones, can there? BTW, I hear that woman complaining about ice was white...I expect your article about the poor whites demaning ice and portable microwaves to appear any minute.

Not to mention the fact that their home just got hit by a hurricane!!! The nerve of those people! Getting themselves hit by a hurricane! Irresponsibility at its finest!

It's very easy to look at the minority and judge. You'll find you'll get a lot happier if you look at the majority and their gratitude and perseverance, and look to that when you think of the aftermath of Katrina.

Well...I think the government should help out people who need it during a disaster. "...government for the people, by the people..." I don't agree with feeding off of the government in welfare cases, where people are truly too damn lazy to get off their asses.

I think they should help too zoo, help... not be obligated or have anyone demand things, ask and ye shall receive is my motto.

Without our government and system of laws, we would have NOTHING! We have over a million Americans who need help because of this storm. That is a lot more important then Iraq. It is time for the American People to tell Bush what is important. I do not want to hear what he and the rich conservatives that support him want! The vast majority do not agree with him or the conservatives in Congress!

The biggest thing that's on my mind is the way that we have shown our weaknesses considering our delayed reaction to such a natural catastrophe. Imagine if this wasn't hurricane recovery but a nuclear bomb detonation in a much more densely populated area like L.A. for instance. Would it be just as slow? Wouldn't it be much more difficult. Showing that we lack the capacity to respond as quickly as I thought we could is quite the scary thought.

P.S. this should put me above 5000 points which I just noticed so I must throw an additional thought. Considering the nearly 7 trillion dollar deficit and now this national relief effort should the government make things like estate tax cuts permanent?

COLON Gene, you should have stopped at this point... you actually almost made a legitimate point... then you let your fingers keep going and blew the insight this line showed.

You are right, there are over a million people who need help, and they are getting it. Not as quickly as any of us would like, and the reasons need to be addressed, but what is going on in Iraq has nothing to do with Emergency Management or Disaster Relief here at home.

There will be AARs for this operation (just like every other), and the weaknesses in Emergency Management Protocols from the City of New Orleans all the way up to FEMA do need to be reviewed and updated with the lessons learned.

If all you're interested in is fingerpointing, I can recommend a few decent preschools where you would fit in fine.
