America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
SEE what entitlements HAVE WROUGHT

While watching the horror in New Orleans unfold I was struck by several things.

That our government DOES NOT have a handle on disasters, be it of the natural kind or man made {terrorist}
They have been slow in responding and allowed lawlessness to run amok. I am dissappointed in the response time lag.

Then watched as the poor blacks in New Orleans DEMANDED food, money, water.

No they did not ask for help. They behaved like since we are being taken care of by the government, we are entitled to help.

Give me this, give me that.

It's your job to take care of me.

This is the result of generations of people on welfare, they can no longer look out for themselves, they HAVE to be cared for by the rest of us. I for one am tired of having people, DEMAND i take care of them because they are to lazy, to stupid, strung out on drugs or spit babies out with no thought for the child's future.

These same folk DEMANDING aid instead of asking for help are nothing but a drain on society.

I watched looting, now fires in my opinion being set, just to watch things burn.

Black leaders saying if the cities white people needed things they would already be there and the reason things are taking so long is because of covert racism.

I watch the left use this tragedy as another way to launch attacks against the president, the left and black leaders should be ashamed of using this horrific event as a tool for partisan behavior.

I have never been ashamed to be an american but today I am ashamed and disgusted.

Reply By: ParaTed2kPosted: Friday, September 02, 2005The problem is, there ARE people in government whose job it is mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery before, during and after a disaster. People should expect them to do their jobs.On the other hand, down in the disaster area there are too many people who didn't listen to the government before the disaster, and now blame the government for their own poor decisions.Yes, one of the apparent gaping holes in the emergency plan was evacuation of people who don't have the means to get out of the area or to shelters. Just think how much more smoothly this would run if all the rescue workers had to worry about were those who couldn't get out.Government promises certain things, and the people have every right to expect what is promised... however, Emergency Services is not about hand holding, it is about working the problem.

I am sorry, but could you maybe explain why I a man that BLED, for his country, pays taxes, is law abiding, gives to charities, donates time to the old and infirm, am a pathetic excuse?

Reply By: ParaTed2kPosted: Friday, September 02, 2005The difference between my response and yours COLON GENE, was mine was the informed response coming from experience and yours was the fart of a Hyperactive Colon.Slander:It was my understanding that many of the reserves that would have been there are now off in Iraq. No one could predict the future. Good reply, but I wasn't refering to the military, I was refering to the Emergency Management Officials, Emergency Services, Mayors and Governors. Emergency Management is a local responsibility. There was only what? 12-18 hours notice to empty a million plus people on a few select highways. That would be tough in anyone's book, especially for those with no car.Yes, but look how many people chose not to respond to the call for evacuation. Yes, as I've said before, there were holes in the Emergency Management Plan and one of the gaping ones was evacuation... Especially of those who do not own cars. Imagine how much smaller the problem would have been if the rescue could focus on those who couldn't evacuate instead of including those who could, but chose not to. It is not uncommon for people who live in cities to rely solely on mass transit to get around, any Emergency Protocols for evacuation should have reflected that.

exaCTLY TED, ONE IS DIAGREEMENT WITH INFORMATION, THE OTHER IS JUST more hot air and sour grapes.

As far as I know, all three of the men you mentioned have gone into combat situations to defend your dumb ass. they've endured things that you can only imagine so that you say sit on your arse and sling insults at them. They are more American than you will ever be, because they've put their money where their mouths are and they've GONE and DONE instead of just talked.YOU and your ilk are what's wrong with America. You epitomize everything that's dragging this country down. All you do is blame blame blame, and you blame anyone but yourself. You make me want to hurl.Sorry, MM, but I am thoroughly dusgusted with his attitude and his insistence on making EVERYTHING anti-government and anti-Bush.

DO NOT be sorry D< I just get all hot and bothered to see "da ladies" kick some ass. heh

Moderateman, I understand where your frustration comes from, but I disagree. Completely.

These are American citizens. We do not know that they are welfare recipients (as was suggested). For all we know, these people have been paying taxes for their entire adult life--paying for the government to respond to situations like this. And for every "thug" I've seen on tv (looting, rioting, whatever) I've seen moms with kids, elderly women, the sick and infermed.

We watch time and time again as the US helps other countries--as citizens we should expect them to do 10 times more for our own. They should not have to ask for services that they have been paying for (through taxes)--they should expect it.

Couple that thought process with (as locomama said) dehydration, hunger, tiredness, unhuman conditions (like walking through raw-sewage to evacuate) and I am not surprised that people are expressing frustration. [This in NO WAY condones or justifies shooting at helicoptors or engaging in any other anti-social behavior].

It's very easy to judge--but since I've never had to walk a mile in their shoes, I think at this point my empahty is needed much more than my scorn.

I agree we should help, from our own heart... not to be made to help. I give with an open heart, But I do not do "someone demanding" very well.

I have said for years we should be helping our own people, stop being the police for the entire world. Keep the billions in aid we give to other countries, rebuild our own infrastructure.

saw a woman that had been sheltered in the SuperDome on FOX news today. When interviewed she complained bitterly about conditions inside, and I admit, they sounded pretty bad.

BUT--when asked if they had at least been given adequate food and water, she admitted that they had, but had the GALL to complain that they had been given no ice for their water and no way to heat the MRE's.

Biggest disaster ever to hit this nation and she complained about warm water and cold food.

~rolls eyes~

I can top that, people complaining about shit on the walls and toilet paper strewn all over, well who put the shit on the walls and who threw stuff all around? what do they expect? MAID SERVICE?

clean up your own mess for crying out load.

You know what? There are soldiers in the desert serving their country who don't have ice for their water or a way to heat their MRE's.

This is an EXTREME situation. I think if I were in their shoes I'd be thankful I even had food or water whether it was hot cold warm or indifferent. Some folks are still stranded on rooftops, others are picking through garbage for sustenance.

Some people don't know how good they got it.

There will always be those who are ungrateful.

I just watched a 19 year old pregnant girl (named Gezeel) who did an interview on CNN to thank the workers and the city of Houston for welcoming them. She said she was disgusted with with her fellow NO residents and doesn't plan to return there when it is over.

She said that they were kept comfortable and the aid workers were upbeat and that it was clear they were doing all they could. She was could express her graditude enough.

It's for people like her that I donate, not for the ones who are whining.

Well...I think the government should help out people who need it during a disaster. "...government for the people, by the people..." I don't agree with feeding off of the government in welfare cases, where people are truly too damn lazy to get off their asses.
