August 15th, 16th and 17th. the actual concert, I started on the 13th and ended on the 18th.

The rain made it miserable, the lack of toilets made it dangerous, the amount of drugs could have stoned out most of todays new youk city. heh

Where else could you ever imagine this many great bands in one place?

When woodstock kicked off I had been growing my hair for 3 years, from a brushcut to about 2 feet long. sigh.

My wife and I were talking about this last night as I watched some of woodstock the film.

Memories came rushing back and I decided to write a little about this.

This was a time when a person could be as indiscriminate sexually as they wanted, there was nothing a 4 day trip to the shot doc, could not fix.

I have been to a number of concerts in my life, but this one is the single greatest concert of all times.

The estimate of how many people that attended ranged from 250,000 all the way to 400,000, who knows for sure?

The bulk of the people there did NOT have tickets, gate crashers but no one really cared.

I cannot for the life of me remember the farmers name in bethel that let us use his 600 acre dairy farm, but bless you dude.

This time was truly a time when SEX, DRUGS AND ROCK&ROLL Ruled...........

--"Who the hell is Bert Sommer"--

I remember awhile back I was talking to a guy I work with about Woodstock. The night before I had seen it on PBS and he told me he was there. He told me about Bert Sommer. He said that he played around the same time Sweetwater did. He said he had a hit and that he also did a Paul Simon song. I think it was "America". He said he wasn't in any of the Woodstock movies and when they made that plaque honoring all the performers at Woodstock they forget him. Damn! Poor guy!

He also said though he was more into groups like Yes and King Crimson he did buy his LP. And recommended I did too.

From Joni Mitchell's great song "Woodstock"

I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, where are you going
And this he told me
(He said) I'm going down to Yasgur's farm
I'm going to join in a rock'n'roll band
I'm going to camp out on the land
I'm going to try an' get my soul free
(He said) We are stardust
We are golden
And we got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

When I first saw the movie I knew about the incredible talent there and was just waiting for them to come out. But the song that totally blew me away was Goin' Home by Ten Years After. I loved that performance. Alvin Lee kicked ass.

kingbee, the 60's for me was high school, getting thrown out of high school, joining military, going vietnam, scooter tramp, woodstock, everything after 1966 was drug induced, pick a drug and drug.
