America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
For male lead I pick Anthony Hopkins, his many films and diverse roles earn him greatest male lead of all times.

His over 97 films include the chilling Hannibal Lecter from silence of the lambs and a powerful portrail as the father in Legends of the Fall.

For female lead I have to step backwards into time, Katherine Hepburn is by far the greatest female actor of all times, she could handle comedy and drama with equal flair.

Katherine is the only 4 times Oscar winner . She made over 50 films.

Look at his range of characters.  Of Course all the westerns, but then a musical (Paint your Wagon), A war Movie (Where Eagles Dare) and comedy one (Kelly's Heros), A blue collar schmo (Any which way you can), A lover (Bridges of Madison COunty) and a stalkee (Play Misty for me).

I like Clint too... more than Anthony, anyway. Katherine was great.

I thoroughly agree with you on both counts. Anthony Hopkins is fab, and Kartherine Hepburn...well, she was a one-of-a-kind and I was really sad about her passing.

What about modern actors and actresses?

Hmmmmmmm... I just watched a movie last week with a modern actress in it and remember telling Joel, "Dang... she can play ANYTHING!" Can't remember who it was NOW, of course. LOL.

I like Harrison Ford, almost as much as Clint.

I like Meg Ryan and Sandra Bullock, although I wouldn't consider either of them "outstanding".

Hmmmmmm greatest actor I have to agrewe with you on Anthony Hopkins, he made a great hannibal. greatest actress is hard for me because I really don't remember that many of them in the old days (LMAO) I like Katherine Hepburn as a actress but can olnly remember her in ON GOLDEN POND WHICH I hated .

My best actor in these times is ANDY GARCIA>.. nothing to do with his acting but he is definitely great eye candy.

Kate is my favorite actress of all time, with Meryl Streep running a close second (Susan Sarandon makes the list, but her politics tend to cause me to wince).

As for actors, Humphrey Bogart and Jimmy Stewart. For modern actors, Denzel Washington, hands down. I have enjoyed him in virtually every role I've seen him play, and he has brought some rather poignant and underpublicized bits of history alive (as Steven Biko in "Cry Freedom", as Cinque in "Amistad", and in the movie "Glory", among others). His role in the movie "Philadelphia" was, to me, the most real; that of a lawyer who is initially repulsed by his client, and through circumstance comes to a point of empathy and understanding of the horrific realities of AIDS. In most of his roles, I can't help but feeling what he is trying to convey. And that is the result of an actor who knows his craft.

Definitely! Loved him in "When a Man Loves a Woman" - when he cried over having to leave those kids... dang. Gets me every time. And yes, great eye candy.

Denzel is great too... he's another one who can play anything. Good guy, bad guy... no problem.
