America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
A small comparison between America and a biblical event.

All of this language mixing once destroyed a proud nation, {read the link}

Having a multi language separated man and woman from each other in the Bible!

This demanding of some of our Immigrants that we accommodate them by learning there language, write things so they can understand them, instead of insisting all immigrants speak, read and write this countries language is leading America along the same path as the tower of babel did, destroying the country as it destroyed mans ability to communicate long ago in just ONE LANGUAGE.

WE as a nation must stop this politically correct behavior and start insisting, you want to be an American? and live in this country, learn our language! Period. Keep your countries language, teach you children the customs and spirit of your homeland, do not let that die, but!!!!! blend in and learn English first.

Do not let America go the way of the Tower of Babel, those that do not heed history is doomed to repeat it.

What about English people. Should we say, stop talking in English English and talk American English?

"in america the language is american english, period"

So you would think it improper for an English person living in America to say 'pavement' instead of sidewalk. Or 'petrol' instead of gas?

Monoculture anyone?

To me, all this production line, monoculture garbage goes against the founding spirit of America.

nope because even with the differences I would understand him, if he said lift instead of elevator I still could communicate, WHERE AS IF A PERSON SAID TO ME" yazagraffle" i WOULD NOT HAVE A CLUE.

well if you had read my blog on "How to Destroy America" you would know I would agree here. I pretty much said the same thing and included a quote from T. Roosevelt in the comments section that would agree with this thread as well.

I think it goes well with the old saying..."United we stand, divided we fall."

I agree.  That is the only provision of the current bill dealing with illegal immigrants that I do agree with.

*yawn*

If fat, lazy Americans have a problem with learning a second or even third language, then we deserve to have our nation "destroyed", if you can even believe what you are describing here is "destruction". Perhaps of your precious "culture", or whitebread non-culture whichever the case may be.

We watch on average over 25 hours of TV a week. There's no excuse for not tossing 3 or 5 or 10 of those hours into something that betters yourself and makes yourself more competitive. Here's a thought, what if Mexicans or other people come to this country, CAN speak at least basic, functional English (which is what the average American speaks, imho), but just opt not to?

You gonna pass a law telling them they can't? Are you gonna be like the French and pass laws saying they have to have English as the main language in their ads and on their signs? The French protect themselves from English and we call them pigs. We do the SAME stinkin things and we laud our patriotism.

A democracy reflects the makeup of its participants, or it isn't a democracy. Embrace change or it will eat you. Making yourself a stagnant pool of self-inflated, cultural-elitists like France, and you'll be just as flaccid a little country in about 100 years.

It's funny to see Americans pretending that ignorance makes them somehow better. In reality if you deny reality and decide not to communicate with a large part of the population, you're just making yourself less viable. You're just embracing the same problems that Mexicans who move here ignorant of English have. You're denying the same reality.

I so disagree with you Baker. I have missionary friends who have been all over the world. I have friends in Poland, Bulgaria, Africa, Brazil, etc. These friends all learned English to come here.

My missionary friends (Americans), one who is moving to Russia this summer and another just came back after 11 years in Uuzbekistan had to learn the langauges of their host country. My friends in Uuzbec said it took 2 years to become fluent in that language. My soon to be American friend going to Russia is taking classes now in Russian. They didn't go over there and demand to stay in English mode and have those countries adapt to them.

That's fine and a good thing for them to do to learn these languages. But I shouldn't have to learn other languages here just to get along in my own country if I don't want to and it has nothing to do with laziness. How many do I have to learn? Right now it's looking like Spanish and Arabic as those are going to start (if not already) becoming prevelant in my own country in certain areas.

I agree with the "when in Rome, do as the Romans." It's always been that way in this country and it has worked well. Why stop? It's going to be our downfall sooner or later.

I shouldn't have to pay higher insurance because some people opt not to. I shouldn't have to lock my doors at night. I shouldn't have to worry about the safety of my little girl. Let's say I obstinantly decide tomorrow to stop doing those things. How much sympathy will you have for me when I suffer?

About as much as I'll have for you when you get passed over for positions or are unable to do as well in a 21st century American population. You have two choices. Go back to the 1800s where it seemed sensible to make immigrants into nice little WASPS, and shun the ones that aren't having any, or better yourself to compete.

My wife works with people like you. Nice people, don't get me wrong, but they'd never consider taking a language course because 1 out of ever 5 people they deal with speak poor English or no English at all. Therefore they aren't useful for 20% of the work that needs doing.

You can hedge yourself more and more and avoid segments of business and society where you can't communicate, or you can accept reality and be more than the average obstinant American. Don't pretend you're protecting "our" culture, though. Many, many Americans pay taxes, have good jobs, make sure their kids get a good education, and choose to only use English when they have to.

As more of their countryment migrate here, the less they'll have to. What would you like to do, force them to speak English to you? Rob yourself of the interaction and benefit of knowing a second language? Or swallow your pride and admit that we will continue to be a Democracy when we are a multi-lingual society?
