Besides blogging, or complaining about Bush, or pointing out who did what where and how, what are YOU DOING TO HELP the folks of america that have been displaced by hurricane Katrina?

At this point I haven't done anything beyond assisting other people with logistics.

Opening my home is not a possibility because a)military housing rules and b)few, if any refugees will be relocated to Oahu.

I can donate money, but it's not something I can spare at the moment. It will be a possibility later this month.

While there are plenty of opportunities for me to help my fellow man here in Hawaii, there are not a whole lot of active options for me to help with victims of Katrina.

And yeah, I feel like a piece of crap about it.

donated to my church's fund. Rented out my home to a family at reduced rent (gotta make the mortgage so I can't offer it free for more than a month) Supported local drives for food/toys etc. and went through my extensive scrapbook supplies to donate to an auction for them.

Texas...e very person you help there is one less person who is in the system....therby freeing up people to work on the Katrina situation.

I've donated money to Second Harvest Link

dabe,

excellent cause. As one who has volunteered for Second Harvest in the past and would do so again if they were close enough for me to do so, I thank you.

As for what we've been doing, well, a lot of it's in my blog.

It did.

If I was helping, I wouldn't get on the computer and tell everyone "Hey, look at me; I'm helping!" I would...um....be helping....which I am....oh ---I mean....no I'm not..

Trinitie

Ya know, Trinitie...I'm going to say this as respectfully as I can, but there's a lot that you, honestly, do NOT know. I would really expect you to be better than making such surface judgements.

I realize that you think that we should all have the capacity to abandon our jobs and families and head down to New Orleans, fix the damn levee and rebuild the town within a week, but it's a little beyond us. It's the little bits, given by EVERYONE, that will add up to helping these people rebuild.

I, like many, wish I could do MUCH more than I am. But I see forums like this, not as excuses to brag, but as places to encourage and uplift one another, as it's going to take a LOT of effort, from a LOT of people to help the people in the affected area get back on their feet.

Please don't use this as an excuse to tear people down. I know you're MUCH bigger than that!

Texas,

You (and the rest of your family) have done MUCH more than you know! Your guilt is misplaced
