America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
Oil, gas companies and politicians beware our might.
Published on September 7, 2005 By Moderateman In US Domestic
It's time for the people of America to flex some consumer muscle.

I am calling for a general work stoppage in America to last for three days, starting next Monday and ending Thursday, no gas, no oil and no work should be done by the American peoples.

This might send a message to the politicians and the fat cats that run the oil companies that we are tired of being pushed around by them.

I am DEMANDING that oil companies cut their already usurious profits by 50% to help the people of America, and the 50% profit should be diverted into relief not only for the common man but for the refugees of hurricane Katrina.

If the people of america get behind my plan what will employers do? fired an entire nation? No food deliveries, no planes flying, no trains and no cars on the road, turn america into a ghost town for three days.

than maybe a longer strike. a week, a month. we need to send a strong message we are tired of all the partisan crap on both sides, and want to be treated like we are really free people.

the gas and oil companies make a huge fortune as the middle class sinks further into debt. we need to stand up and say "WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE"!!

You want lower prices? Talk to your elected officials.....a BIG chunk of gas prices (depending on where you live) are taxes, surcharges and pork/

I was having the very same conversation with Dave at the gas station last week.

American's are ALLOWING themselves to be pushed around and used by the oil companies because we keep on using fuel at the same rate. If each person were to drastically reduce the amount of fuel they use each week, that would reflect in the amount revenue the oil companies make...and perhaps then they'd take notice of our complaints. As it is, they know that we won't stop using fuel just because they've raised the price, so they just keep hiking the cost up and keeping the profit margin the same.

WE are the consumers here, and WE have the power to make changes. If we all worked together we could MAKE the oilmen sit up and listen.

But, that'll never happen. So, I'll do my own form of protesting by reducing the amount of gasoiline I use and walking or riding a bike instead.

Yes Karen they "would" take notice. And you know what they'd do? They would merely double the price to make up the shortfall. But you're right there has to be "something" we can do.

It does, it has and it will.  We stopped going down to New Kent (an hour both ways), altho it is gods place here.  And we are dumping it.  We have changed our habits. I am sure others have as well.  We are not going back.

I'm sorry to differ, but that just isn't true now. Maybe 20 years ago. The price of oil now is not artificial, it is caused by increased demand by China and other fast-expanding nations. If we did not buy the oil, the Chinese would. They are attempting to buy out US oil companies right now.

We've been pretending for decades that China was a first-world nation. It wasn't. China has been made up of first-world pockets, surrounded by the majority of the population living in very meager conditions. When the Chinese standard of living becomes more homogeneous, they could absorb our oil and more.

In order to be competitive, we have to be able to pay what the Chinese are willing to pay. They are a nation of 1.4 BILLION people. We are a nation of 300 million. Add India to that and you get another billion. Add Indonesia and the surrounding pacific to it and you get another billion.

They are catching up, and there aren't enough resources to go around. Sure, we should decrease our reliance, but to blame this demand on us is silly. We aren't using any greater amount of oil, especially not in the last 5 years or so.

China is using oil as a weapon in a cold war, and the nations who hate us are helping them. Sure, lets decrease our use, but don't pretend this is because of a 'wasteful' US. In the coming decades our use will be a drop in the bucket, even if we didn't change.
