Ok here’s the deal, the Geneva conventions was made to honor soldiers from the enemy camp.

IF the enemy plays by the rules of war they are entitled to the respect the Geneva Convention affords them.

Things an enemy cannot do, are as follows, disguise themselves as civilians, this was made to keep civilian causalities down to a minimum.

They may NOT wave a white flag as a trap to lure the enemy into a slaughter.

They cannot use civilians as human shields, nor are they to allow a child to fight in war. Child being defined as someone less than 18 years of age.

Now these mother******** we have in Gitmo, have not obeyed any of the above parameters nor do they wear a uniform of an enemy combatant.

So why is the far left pushing so hard to get them rights and privileges they ARE NOT entitled to?

Is there no low the far left will not stoop to in order to keep in power?

Indeed if this was the NAZI country they so love shouting we are, these jerks would be the first to be ,{ahem} eliminated.

The irony of it all is, on the one hand, it is terms of the Geneva Convention itself that excludes the detainees at Guantanimo Bay from it's protections. On the other hand, if we gave in to the Left's demands and afforded them Geneva Convention guarantees, then we couldn't give them trials, hearings or lawyers, because the Geneva Convention specifically bans putting anyone under their protection on trial by the nation that captured them.

So, even if the Left got its way and somehow won Geneva Convention protections, the U.S. (or any Coalition nation) could not put them on trial, nor would we have to release them until the hostilities have ceased and a POW release was negotiated (no matter how many years those hostilities would happen to last).

Careful what you wish for Lefties, you just might get it.

That's the part that amuses me the most. Some cry out that we are holding them 'indefinately" and they should receive protections via the Geneva Convention without realizing that by holding them in their current status we are leaving our options open to release them when we see fit. Otherwise, under the Geneva Convention, they could wind up being held a much longer period of time. Especially if the war on terrorists drags on as long as many of their dire predictions.

the left is not intrested in what is right or wrong only in what they can do to inflame the public and recapture power.

Nitpick: the Geneva Convention isn't about rights, it's about privileges only. Being treated according to the Geneva Convention is a privilege accorded only to those who abide by the Geneva Convention. The Convention explicitly releases its signatories from abiding by its rules, if they are ever involved in a war with non-signatories or with signatories who first violate the Convention. In practice, most signatory nations abide by the rules even when not fighting non-signatories, probably because "well, he never signed the no torture agreement!" doesn't really sound like a good excuse (as we have recently seen in practice).
