The Beatles: 'In My Life'
I read through every entry above, preparing to add my contribution at the end, only to find Iconoclast had beaten me to it. What a fantastic song - Lennon at his finest, I think. A mere two verses of deceptive simplicity, yet it strikes a deep chord with so many. And that fabulous harpsichord interlude to boot. Just think, in those days the Beatles were so awash with inspiration that this little masterpiece didn't even get released as a single. Ah, don't get me started ...

I'd probably have to say "Fool in the rain" by Led Zeppelin.

My favorite cuts are "Our Town" about teens living in a small town. Their parents tell them to stay there and not build a life beyond the town. Another song is "Water On Glass" about a medical condition where people continually hear noises in their head. For modern rock, I would have to vote anything Nirvana and Hole. To this day, I love "Doll Parts

I liked nirvana losing cobain was a loss to music.

knights in white satin, by them is my bliss

YOu asked what had the greatest meaning, not what was the favorite.  Knights in White Satin is one of their best (I have all of them).  But Candle of Life speaks to me very deeply.

"Candle Of Life"

Something you can't hide
Says you're lonely
Hidden deep inside
Of you only
It's there for you to see
Take a look and be
Burn slowly the candle of life

Something there outside
Says we're only
In the hands of time
Falling slowly
It's there for us to know
With love that we can go
Burn slowly the candle of life

So love everybody
And make them your friend
So love everybody
And make them your friend

Something you can't hide
Says you're lonely
Hidden deep inside
Of you only
It's there for you to see
Take a look and be
Burn slowly the candle of life

Something there outside
Says we're only
In the hands of time
Falling slowly
It's there for us to know
With love that we can go
Burn slowly the candle of life

The Beatles In My Life

A day in the life

There are so many songs that have been the greatest for me at one point or another. But the ones I do think are really great:

A few of Carly Simon's songs: You're so Vain; Let the River Run; and Nobody does it better

Anything by the Bee Gees!

Bob Marley's One Love always gets me dancing! Along with Simply Irrisistable by Robert Palmer; and

Tainted Love by Soft Cell - was my anthem when I was younger!

I also like most of Simply Red songs and of course, Anastacia and my all time favourite, Neil Diamond! So, too many!

I liked Tainted love too.

Best melody Simon and Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence.
Best Solo: Neil Young Rockin in the Free World
Best lyrics - Unforgiven/One Metallica

Best up and coming Evanesence

FREEBIRD - that's a joke in case you don't get me. I can't pick a favorite. My current favorites are anything that gets me moving and keeps me happy. So that leaves out all the heavy serious songs. I will say my current fave is She's a Rebel by Green Day. It's my ring tone and I don't even want to answer my phone because I want to dance.
