America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
At the oceanand back again
Published on April 9, 2005 By Moderateman In Personal Relationships
As I was walking with all the grace an ill man that is 58 years old, on rocks that just an hour before was submerged in the pacific ocean, suddenly I went flying over the rocks.

Sure footed as any 10-year-old boy, Running on slippery rocks, arms thrown out to my sides, laughing with joy.

For a brief moment in time, I could feel the wind on my head, and just knew I still was wearing the crew cut I had worn as a child< throwing all caution to the wind, I started to sprint across rocks that a few moments earlier I was being ever so careful on, feeling the sheer joy of just being alive.

No longer was I a “sick old man” I was a child of God again feeling the power of youth, the joy of no fear, damning all consequences Knowing in my heart I was not going to fall or slip.

This is a memory I will cherish for all time and I wanted to share this with you all.

Are you speaking literally or metaphorically?
I'll take the literal interpretation. Sounds so good to me. I'd love to recapture being 10 again. At the ocean. Free as a bird.

Sometimes we all need a reminder that even though we may be ill, we still need to live life to the fullest, I am glad you had this time. Yes I was scared after you told me you did rock climb but I thought about you doing it and I could picture you on the rocks with the joy on your face and that made me happy, Rock on my sweetest of friends

This was a beautiful piece, moderateman. I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation. There is something humbling and overwhelming and awe-inspiring about the ocean that doesn't seem to diminish with age or numerous visits...

I really enjoyed this post.

It's great that you were able to escape your current life and be like a kid again, even if it was only for a while.

You had me scared when I read "suddenly I went flying over the rocks." I thought a wave took you!

Reply By: little_whipPosted: Sunday, April 10, 2005there for just one shining moment I has the invulnerability of a childThat's the defining moment, isn't it, that feeling of immortality we have when we're young, the sure knowledge that bad things happen to other people but never, ever, happen to us.The longer we live, the more we come to realize that we were deluded as youths, and as we become more intimately aquainted with age, illness, pain and death, we exercise caution after caution. We don't drive as fast and we wear our seatbelts. We limit our salt intake and slather on sunscreen. We avoid stray dogs and hitchikers, both can bite. We give up bowling because it throws our back out and we put away the roller skates 'cus they are too hard on our knees. And we quit running on slippery rocks, too.I'm glad you experienced this moment, that brief recapturing of the feeling, and were literally able to throw caution to the wind and simply exist, be, enjoy.....May you have many more just like it.

thanx whip, you really summized the whole experence. and I hope to have a few more of these rare moments.
