America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
I was thinking back on the elections and remembering how dirty and nasty the Democrats got.

AS they relentlessly pounded President Bush with his economic policies, the premise was “this President has lost more jobs than any sitting president since time stared, more blah blah blah.

Then the war on terror more wrong wrong wrong crap… with a ton of quagmire thrown in.

So since the democrats can no longer harp on those two subjects, due to a 5.2 Unemployment rate {better than any rate bill Clinton had} nor whine about the war on terror being a quagmire {free elections remember}? They have started to pound on Bushes proposed social security plan, with out hearing what the plan even is.

I have been right in most my predictions about the Democrats and now I will look into my crystal ball and predict 5 new members of congress in 2006, all republicans. Giving them the 60 votes to shut the mouths of the democratic obstructionist for at least 2 year, so the republican can finally get some work done.

Here in my small town I had the pleasure of sabotaging some politicians Thursday night at town council meetings.

It was obvious to whole town that the democratic ruled town council was in bed with the sanitation company and they were getting ready to raise our trash bill by 54% by adding on a 6.90 per month charge so we can recycle.

Although I am way in favor of recycling, To charge the citizens 6.90 a month for the privilege of recycling is ludicrous, as they take the recyclables and sell it to make profit.

I sat and listened to the figures being thrown around by the cfo of the company, and then watched as the city attorney nodded his head wisely and said this is something state law mandates. {Huge lie} the city is already at 68% recycling when by law we needed to be at 50%. I pointed it out to his in the public speaker part of forum, and was given the “death stare” back, which I shrugged off.

Then came the inevitable rebuttal from the trash company, about the cost of the truck, gas, maintenance, more typical democratic smoke,

Using the figures supplied by them {240,000] for new truck, paying the new driver, blah blah, all smokescreen. I came back with well by your figures the truck will be totally paid off in first year just from the raise you propose, {is 262.400} first year} not even counting the moneys made from sales of glass, paper, cans, aluminum, etc.
Needless to say the proposal was shelved and a new proposition must be in place before any action is taken.

A small person in a free society can make a difference see?

On the way out of town council I was thanked and congratulated for stopping this debacle. {Made me feel good}
It’s not just republicans that are greedy, the democrats showed their greed too.

everyone has a tendency to be greedy, including (though i wouldnt say especially) democrats.

im not sure why im picking this post to pose this question, except that among the many conservative writers on this site, i tend to enjoy and find illumination discussing things with you. being a liberal these days requires a lot of soul searching and honesty, in order to figure out how i really feel about what is happening the world of politics. i am case#1 among liberals who feel that the voice of the democratic party, if not the policies, needs to change quickly, but it is no easy change to make.

that said, here's my question. based on your takes, i place you somewhere on the conservative side of the political polar divide--somewhere comfortably in the middle amongst republicans in general, i would say. but i guess im wondering whether or not you are the type of conservative who votes unilaterally with your party on issues, congress seat elections, and/or presidential elections.

i have a belief that both parties really COULD work together at some point in the future, if we realized that having a healthy, secure country is both of our goals. i like to believe (although lately ive become more cynical) that the reason our country tends toward a two-party system rather than the multi-splinters of most parliament systems, is because we are actually closer to singular purpose than most people feel comfortable believing.

balance seems to be the key. and while i have voted with the democratic party about 75-80% of all situations, the number comes from the fact that i have thought less about political consequences in the past than i do now. likewise, it makes more sense to me that the system should be balanced.

i dont know much about your town politics. what i do know is that staunch liberals and conservatives spend a lot of time either defending their party or attacking the other. . .usually using labels (or article titles on this site) like "liberals are greedy, too" or "handboks for speaking with the far right".

i understand and am personally familiar with resentments galore. i just dont think it's productive.

hey, moderate. im not trying to hijack your thread and i apologize if i have. i just wonder whether we (politically motivated individuals) will ever spend our time objectively and unsarcastically reviewing policies without the defensive partisanship. im at least as guilty of it as you. i just get the feeling that our parties, while actually co-existing on more common ground than we like to admit, are rhetorically moving farther and farther away from each other, making it less likely that we can actually accomplish some great things.
