As I sit here reading all the america bashing going on in the name of "dissent" I cannot help but remember when I dissented.
When I came home from vietnam in 1966 the war protesters were out in full force..
The media was already portraying us as monsters of some kind.
I could not get a job when on my resume was printed "marine corps" combat vet,
So I felt betrayed.
So my dissent was to NOT stand for the national anthem, as I refused to honor my flag and country, because I was shown no honor.
After almost 20 years of this not standing at ballgames or anywhere else, I was in oakland watching the wwf... Hulk hogan days,
Paul orndorf and rowdy roddy piper were my favs.
Anyways something came over me and I stood with tears in my eyes choked up and placed my hand over my heart and sang {off key} the national anthem.
Never once did I trash my president, nor cry about what a crappy gov. we had. Life has its funny twists and turns {my wife is a anti-war protestor}
We can disagree with anyone we choose but show some respect for america and if not the president his OFFICE then.
Bashing Bush and his office under the guise of dissent is bull dookey...
Dissent is what made this country great... voice your opposition, just try to remember if we don.t show respect for each other and our ELECTED officals how can we expect other countries to?
