Well I think its time to step into the 19th century and buy my first digital camera. and I want at least 5 mega pixals. what I need is some advise on a SIMPLE camera easy to use easy to hook up to my dell 4600 to send pics.

price range about 300 to 400 hundred.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this site: http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/5-megapixel-digital-cameras-ratings.html

They have a pretty unbiased view of things.

Most cameras come with software and a USB cord.  All you need is enough space on your drive and a USB port.  The software wizard walks you through the rest.

I personally prefer Canon...but that's just me.

I also prefer cannon and they have a 3.2 Mp camera with a 10x optical zoom and Image stabilization (IS). The image stabilization is worth it's weight in gold, I have used IS lenses on my SLR camera and trust me it will save what would have been a blurry pic 9 times out of 10. Also 3.2 Mp is plenty to produce 8x10 prints. here's a link Link

It's really kinda complicated to explain the mechanics of it, to try to make it simple, there are minature motors inside the camera lense that adjust to ensure the lens elements stays stable and focused on the target, virturally eliminating "Camera Shake" which will cause blurry pictures especially when using the zoom lense or taking pics in low light.

I don't know if that's any better an explanitation.

Here's an article at photo.net that has some pics that show the difference. Some of the reading is a little technical but the pictures show the results.Link
