America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
Veterans day
Published on November 11, 2008 By Moderateman In History

Today is Veterans day, today is but one day when we pay homage to our veterans, I pay homage to those that came before me and those that came after me.

I pay respect to those that did not come home, those that came home part way, those that came home with pieces of them not there anymore.

I pay and pray for those that live under bridges and are broken mentally because of what they did or saw.

The way America treats her veterans is disgraceful! America should be ashamed of herself for such treatment of brave men and now women that put their lives on the line to keep America free, so lemon-heads can blather on about how evil and terrible America is with no fear of reprisal.

G-D bless you and keep all of you serving now; safe and free from harm.

Wassa matter hit to close to home for some of you?

on Nov 11, 2008

Did you have your free Applebee's dinner tonight?

I thought that was pretty neat, although living in a military town I didn't encourage Adrian to go because the wait would have been ridiculous.

Thank you for your service, MM.

Happy Veterans Day to all of my fellow vets and those currently serving.

With undying respect to all those who have kept our nation free.  Thank you for your service.

I know I'm a little late, responding here.  Would've responded last night, but I was too busy taking the Vets in my life out to a much deserved treat.

A big thank you every vet who comes back so that we can say that "Thank you!"  A prayer of sympathy, hope and understanding for the families of those vets who made the ultimate sacrifice.

My family has a tradition of military service going back to the Civil War.  At least one member of the family has served in every war fought during that time.  And at least one family member is an active, volunteer member of the military during those times.  I'm not saying this to boast (far from it).  It's just that days like Veteran's Day and Memorial Day both hit very close to home for my family and me.

A very large thank you for those that chose to respond to this article.

My friends took me out for dinner last night, and even my Liberal ANTI-WAR friends were very respectful for my service in Vietnam. I was humbled and touched and filled with gratitude at this surprise that Colleen was in on. She simply said to me "lets go to dinner at the point" a restaurant on the Sacramento river here in town and there they were around 10 of my friends, needless to say politics was not the discussion of the evening! heh heh.

Parking lot was full, went to Ruby Tuesdays instead.

MM I concur with you. Those folks are truly blind to what they have because of the people who sacrificed, even in these troubling economic times. For them the article title should read, " Some gave nothing, and bitch about those that gave something". I don't mind people that either can't or won't serve for whatever reason. Somebody needs to keep the home fires burning, just a little appreciation is all. As a retired vet I also salute the people who support the troops.

Other than sensationalized media, I've never seen or heard anyone treat vets or servicemen in any disrespectful way.  I think saying that "America" should be ashamed is a bit false.  You'll always have jerks concerning any topic, but I don't feel like it is the norm.

Karma, I have no Idea what age you are, but Vietnam vets were treated like foul smelling garbage upon returning home, no not all vets were treated that way, but enough for it to be disgraceful.

Here here, I appreciate your service; as a Vietnam vet I too support the folks that fight for our freedom and yes even the freedom of loud mouth jerks that think having tea with a terrorist will end the war. Idiots! all of them!

My hat is off to your family. Mine have fought in every war this nation has ever had, back to the Revolutionary War and before. Not posting this as a means of "competition" but as a recognition of family tradition. In my family if a male doesn't serve his country and doesn't have a legitimate medical reason he's scum.

You should get out more. I've had people treat me with everything ranging from mild distain to outright violence when they learn I served in the military. Hell, I served during the Cold War, not an outright shooting war (although we did see some action). I can't even imagine how it was for the Viet Nam vets if we got treated that way.

I recently had several people in a vehicle arrested on charges of "domestic terrorism" for trying to cause me to wreck my truck. My crime? Hauling a military vehicle. Those Texas cops don't screw around
