If you read up on it, it was part of a union negotiation. The majority of the workers at that specific plant are Somolian refugees, and that is what the union representing them asked for, and received.

It doesn't apply to any other plant.

Yes step one in overturning an American holiday in favor of a Religious one favoring one specific religion. How soon will it be before another plant somewhere else uses this example to do the same thing, give an inch, take a mile. watch and see.

I really don't see the problem here. Companies chose all the time when they will allow workers a day off. Chick Fil-A and Hobby Lobby have signs up that say they are closed on Sunday so that their employees may worship. Sunday is the Christian sabbath, so these companies are favoring one religion. I was forced to take Christmas off and use a vacation day for Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah when I was working. It is what it is.

Yes step one in overturning an American holiday in favor of a Religious one favoring one specific religion. How soon will it be before another plant somewhere else uses this example to do the same thing, give an inch, take a mile. watch and see.

Um, pretty much every company forces you to take off Christmas, how is that not favoring one specific religion? The bottom line here is that this is one union at ONE plant. The members of that union at that plant are almost all Muslim so it makes sense that they would want to take their religious holiday off instead of Labor Day. Also if you read up on the situation it turns out that the plant is open and has the employees working on most Holidays anyway, Labor Day being one of the holidays that most people worked. So what's the problem here? There isn't one, it's a non-issue.

What ugly trend? The trend that unions make demands of a company during contract negotiations and the company gives in to some of them? That has been going on since unions started and that is what happened here. Why shouldn't a worker be allowed to trade in a holiday that they don't care about in favor of a holiday that is very important to them? That just makes sense.

And why is it a federally mandated holiday? Maybe it shouldn't be. It does show favor to one religion over the others and we are supposed to have freedom of religion in this country. What if I wanted to work on Christmas because I'm not Christian, shouldn't I be allowed to?
