The Stranger entered the room, he was one of those guys that the room grew quiet when he came through the door. The first thing you noticed about him was his over sized hands, knuckles the size of grapes, scar tissue covering them, the fingers long, slender but powerful looking, his fingers looked like he could span the entire keyboard of a piano, but in your heart you just knew he was no piano player. He moves like a jungle cat stalking prey, his long hair, clean, wavy and shiny had a life of its own.
He was tall, dark skinned he could be any of several races or a combination of several, Greek, Italian, Arab came to mind. He spoke gently it seemed but his voice carried, " is Mary O. Here?" Several people pointed at her, she was a smallish woman, pleasing to the eye, when they made eye contact she squealed with delight and ran across the room and flung herself through the air to land in his arms, they kissed, the party still was at a standstill but the mood changed now, people were grinning and smiling at this display. The kiss ended and Mary spoke, "Angel where have you been", Angel smiled and said "Later Mary, when we are alone and the whole world is not listening" as if this was some kind of cue, the party started again, music played people started talking, some started dancing.
Angel and Mary moved to a corner where they could speak in private, "how you been" Mary asked, "I Haven't seen or heard from you in three years, I should be mad at you" she smiled "but I'm not" Angel replied with a crooked grin "you sure you want to know?" Mary looked deeply into Angels eyes and decided she really did not want to know, at least not now. All she wanted was to be close to this man she almost married three and 1/2 years ago before she found out what he did for a living. Angel always seemed to have money and he never seemed to work, but two or three times a year he would just say " I have to go somewhere and will be gone for a few weeks" When he came back they picked right up where they left off, but as the relationship grew more serious and Mary grew more curious finally she asked "what exactly do you do for a living?"
Angel thought about that time when Mary asked that deadly question, and the response when he finally answered her.
They had been engaged to be married, Mary broke the engagement off and in the next six months they slowly drifted apart till one day she woke up to find a note by the bedside' Dear Mary I love you, I am Leaving for now I will be back to see if you change your mind, Love always, your Angel' She still had the note, at times she really wondered where he was, if he was alright, if he had met someone new, the usual questions someone asks themselves in this situation.
As more time went by she realized that she really loved this man but had no way of contacting him, the months grew into a year, then two then three, then just as suddenly as he left, there he was standing before her, it was like he had never left. This time she was not going to let him go away again if he was still single.
"You are still single, I hope?" mary asked, "Yep" was Angels reply," I came back to see if you will have me" Again she squealed and almost shouted" yes, yes I will" He said "I don't do what I used to do anymore and I have enough money now for us to live comfortably for the rest of our lives if you will marry me"
Her reply to his proposal was simple and to the point. "yes" and sealed it with a kiss.
