America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~

Finally the United States Government has had enough of cities that have become a haven for the Criminal Illegal Aliens among us!

There was a glimmer of hope on the {sh-}amnesty landscape  in the House, as a bill to cut all Department of Homeland Security Funding to OUTLAW cities that have an Amnesty mindset toward ILLEGAL ALIENS and make them either chose Funding or continuing to break federal law by offering shelter to ILLEGALS.

U.S. Representative Tom Tancredo’s (R-CO) amendment to cut funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Bill (H.R. 2638) for cities that employ a sanctuary policy passed the House with strong bipartisan support today; 234 to 189.

The Amendment would prevent cities like Denver and San Francisco who employ a sanctuary policy for illegal aliens from receiving first responder funds, including law enforcement and terrorism prevention grants, among other programs. In the meantime, sanctuary cities are on notice: Defy immigration law, risk your homeland security funding. Too bad the White House refuses to send that message.

Even a few Democrats supported the bill which had failed several times before when Tancrado introduced it. Could it be the Democrats are finally getting the message American is tired of Illegal Immigrants being above the law, killing our citizens and our children, when they should not even be in AMERICA!

While I don't agree with the notion of 'sanctuary cities' I'm not sure this is the way to deal with them because it interferes with State's Rights. A similar situation would be the witholding of highway funds to those States who did not vigorously enforce the 55MPH speed limit, or more recently, California's attempt to legalize medicinal marijuana being squashed by Federal enforcement.

Sorry LW but I don't see it that way. I don't agree with "sactuary cities" either, but "any" city that knowing habors illegal aliens ( read that as CRIMINALS) deserve what they get. Lest you forget harboring a known criminal (illegal aliens are criminal) is in itself a criminal act in "all" states and federaly also..

Short memories. Who passed the original amnesty bill that was supposed to cure this country of illegal immigrants and protect our borders? It was Reagan and a Republican majority in the Senate.

It was a Mistake then, and it is making the same mistake now. I care not what party makes the mistake whoman.

Besides that this "don't ask about if they are citizens" cities has allowed some of the ILLEGALS to escape with little or no consequences to commit offences in new cities. How many times have ILLEGALS been caught with a DUI, LET GO, and killed someone while drunk driving at some later date.

Interesting.

what's interesting? the article? the comments? what? what do you think of this Idea? come on tex give me something to work with here.

Here's a really, really unique idea. Let's cut off ALL cities from federal funding, cut taxes, and let the cities raise the revenue they need on their own!

Hehehe.

I think it's a novel idea. I don't know if I think it's good or bad. I am not very politically minded (or exceptionally bright for that matter).

LW made some good points.

I don't know. I just think it's interesting.

And your article is well-written.

That's all.

Well, see, MM, the reason I feel this way is because of what it has brought us. The federal government found outthat it can meddle in areas where it is Constitutionally PROHIBITED from legislating by dangling the carrot of federal funding. This is why the national drinking age is 21, when until the late 80's it was 18 in many states. Because the fed said "you like highway money, you play by our rules".

Sure, it's nice to get that "free" money from the federal government. But in this case the cost has been more than just the Benjamins pilfered from our bank account by the IRS' strongarm tactic; our autonomy has gone out the window with it.

This is very true gid, and States rights have gone the way the the "speakeasy", But what are we as a nation to do when cities become a law unto themselves? deciding what LAW they will follow and what law they will ignore? To openly declare "we {insert city name here} will NOT report Illegals to the federal authorities" We will not allow our police to even ask if someone is Legal or ILLEGAL"
