America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
If the democrats take the house, watch for this.

These are some thoughts from Representative John Murtha, an EX-Marine.

A guide for those that do not know. Former marine= proud to have been and keeps the best of the corps inside.

EX-marine= Someone not proud to have been a marine and is a disgrace to everything the corps stands for.

The current war in Iraq has lasted longer than the Korean War, World War I and World War II in Europe. This war is the first protracted conflict in modern times in which our nation has not utilized a draft for additional support. If the President is genuinely serious in his comparison with communism and fascism, perhaps he should reconsider a call to reinstate the draft. The selective service provided:

2.8 million U.S. Servicemen in WWI,

10 million U.S. Servicemen in WWII,

1.5 million U.S. Servicemen in the Korean War, and

1.8 million U.S. Servicemen during the Vietnam Conflict

"The facts are that in 1950, the United States had about 1.5 million active duty personnel under arms and by 1952 they surged to 3.6 million. In Vietnam the U.S. had 2.7 million in 1964 and by 1968 we had over 3.5 million."

In 2006, the overall active end-strength of our nation's military was 1,367,500. The President's 2007 budget request reduces that end-strength to 1,332,300. This means that there is projected to be 35,200 fewer troops on our nation's active duty rolls this year as compared to last year.

Murtha thinks America cannot sustain the President's open-ended, vague and bankrupting war policies indefinitely. Murtha should try less rhetoric and more action.

"If we are to fight this war with the same sense of dedication and vigor as we did prior wars, we cannot do it without a surge in force".

"It is unlikely that the President will call for a draft. A draft is politically unpopular. But we cannot continue to allow the President to pursue open-ended and vague military missions without a change in direction."

Two years ago, Murtha was one of only two in the House of Representatives who voted for a draft, because he believes if we are a country truly at war, the burden should be shared proportionately and fairly. So Mr. President, you have two options, either change the course in Iraq and reduce the burden on our overstretched active force or reinstate the draft. We cannot sustain the current course.

Representative John Murtha has plans to reinstate the selective service act. The dreaded draft.

He feels we do not have enough fighting men to continue this war on terror, so he has two ideas, one is cut and run. The other is to start drafting 18 year old boys to help fight the war on terror.

Make up your mind John. run away and hide or build up the military by drafting unwilling men to fight in the war.

When the Democrats win the house Murtha has plans to introduce a bill calling for the reinstatement of selective service. This would be a huge mistake and will just divide the country even more than it already is. Again the children of poor parents will become cannon fodder and will make up the bulk of draftees.

So much for the "PARTY OF THE PEOPLE" Maybe they should consider inserting the word "RICH" between the words "the" and "people"

actually, both the ideas suggested by both murtha and charlie rangel have new rules getting rid of all those "rich kid" exemptions that previously existed. the move is more about accountability than anything and those not falling for the talking points fed to the talk news pundits already know this.

There never was any "rich kids exemptions", however there were exemptions that the more well to do parents could better take advantage of.  And that has not changed in the Rangel version either.  You fell for the other side's talking points.

as someone that was alive and at war when the draft still excisted I can say, if your parents have money, you can beat the draft. Do you think it was rich kids that fled the united staes during vietnam? no it was poor kids that did not want to fight. Cowards!

John Murtha wants a draft for one reason and one reason only.... So he and other Dems can say, "See, we had to bring back the draft because of Bush! We didn't want to do it, but he forced our hand and now look!" Like all piss poor "leaders" he would rather turn to stupidity and blame someone else than actually see what needs to be done, and see that it gets done.

I agree, charlie wrangle {spelling?} tried that during the 2004 Presidential election, so Kerry could point and say see what Bush did?

I agree. A draft is a BAD idea.

Still, what we're doing now ISN'T working.

They don't care about the war, and they most certainly don't want a draft. They know we won't have a draft. The purpose here, as in the run up to the 2004 election, is to frighten 20-somethings and their parents so badly that they'll turn on the President.

They are on the one hand playing to the class-hatred of urban America who believe that no one except poor minorities join the army and thus are the only ones who die, and on the other scaring all the people who are on the fence. They are hoping to get all the little protest whores in college to paint a peace symbol on their face and start marching.

So, in essence, what Mr. Murtha and his ilk are doing is purposely trying to undermine the confidence of the American people during a time of war for political gain. At one time, you would have been put on trial for treason in the US. Now, for some reason, it is "admirable".

Like you said they tried it in 2004, they figure to keep trying till it works. despicable creatures.
