America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~

Governors Corzine's solution for the four billion dollar deficit of New Jersey, inherited from another Democratic governor forced to resign for fraud, what else? raise taxes on the people of New Jersey.

His proposal was denied by A Democratic Majority {what's up with that? democrats not wanting to raise taxes?}

His solution for being denied? Close state beaches, state parks, send home state workers, close the dmv, close all government functions not deemed necessary.

His best move now is to close all the Atlantic city casinos, the casinos contribute over two million a day in taxes. Yes perfect sense get his tax raise denied, throw a fit, lose more tax money, fall further in debt. Also this puts another 50,000 employees out of work.

To think people keep electing Democrats to public office seems like a no brainer, no brains? vote DEMOCRAT!

I wonder how many are going to re-elect him?  Knowing NJians, more than enough.

maybe if this debacle stretches out long enough we can see a recall like we did to grey Davis.

The really scary part in all of this mess - the NJ governator didn't have a choice about shutting state services down. Without a budget, there's no authorization to spend money (it's in the NJ Constitution). No state money - no state employees (park attendants, beach folks, or folks to make sure the casinos aren't ripping people off TOO badly (that's the state's job, remember?)).

I thought everything was supposed to be perfect if the Dems controlled the state house and the legislature. What gives here? And where do Dems get off turning down a tax hike? I thought that was what they knew how to do? No, they now go and show us that they can even screw that up. (Note for the sarcasticly impaired - this entire paragraph is so heavily laced with sarcasm that it should be a healthcode violation. You have been warned.)

We barely missed that debate!  But I think Ted Matthews would have been royally skewered if he had tried.

I'm sure someone has already blamed Bush for this. But the other poster is right, this is what democrats do when they raise taxes. They still mess it up.

Excellent comments and article above. Corzine is definitely not faced with many options, though how a state finds itself $4 billion in the hole is a bit beyond me. I guess I can't really say that though as the last Democratic Governor of Maryland, one dis-honorable (maybe not dishonorable, but certainly not worth honoring either) Parris Glendening took a state that had a 'rainy day" fund that had been accumulated over the course of his predecessors, most notably the most charismatic and normally honorable former Governor, now State Comptroller, William Donald Schaefer. The fund when Glendening took office was reportedly near $2 billion, and yet when Glendening left there was negative (that's a number in the red with a "-" sign in front) approximately $2 billion.

Thankfully the residents of Maryland saw enough and refused to elect Glendening's hand-picked successor, a member of the Kennedy clan, and instead elected the very honorable, first Republican in over 40 years, Governor Robert Ehrlich.

We (the citizens of Maryland) are still paying negative dividends for Glendening's era and for the stranglehold that Democrats had on the state legislature here, including the recent folly of seeing a California style electrical power deregulation plan that was nothing but a sham blow up to require all state residents to pay rate increases that many are not prepared for.

Democrats have screwed up and screwed over in so many places along the way, and yet people keep electing them. Why? Because they keep promising that there's a better way. They promise that they know the way, and they have a plan. If they do, they never deliver on it. They know that if they ever do empower anyone that they'll lose their leverage and will no longer be able to blackmail people or extort their votes for the promised goods that won't ever be delivered.

It really is enough to make a person ill.

Hmmm, lets see.  We have a surplus.  It disappears (ok, 9-11 happened).  We get a 2.4 billion tax increase.  We get a 2.4 billion surplus!  We get another DEMOCRAT governor, and he wants another 1.4 billion tax increase!

Why?  We have an effing surplus!

Oh wait!  it is a democrat.

End of discussion.

this is very easy to answer, the state collects 4 billion in taxes, the democrats spend 8 billion.
