America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~

What’s the deal about Coretta Scott King?

If I see one more tribute to the dead wife of slain black leader Martin Luther King I am going to scream.

So what? She died, what’s the big deal? All this flying flags at half-mast for what reason? She was no national hero, She did nothing great, and her big claim to fame is her husband was killed.

Where were all the tributes when Jackie Kennedy died? Where was her body laid in state?

This is just more politically correct garbage; if she were white there would not be such a display.

How have we let America fall into such a place that we “honor” someone not for what she did, but for the color of her skin?

Sorry, she was a "first lady". Did her body lie in state? Nope. Why then is MLK's wife being accorded that honor? If Jackie didn't deserve it, then why should Ms. King?

Sorry to say this, but it's appeasement at work with a dash of politics, if they wanted to honor her life so mush why then did they {the dems} turn it into a circus?

Do you REALLY think that they would pass up so great an opportunity to pimp Black History Month?

(To those who have a problem with my issue with "Black History Month"; would you equally defend a "WHITE History Month? I thought not).

Thanks for being a shining example of racism CMorton. Even in tribute to her, you can't seem to get past her skin color.

To you was she a Great American? Or was she a Great Black Lady?

Either way, she wasn't a head of state, nor the spouse of one. I also don't think she deserved to be treated like a head of state at her death. I do think she was a great American, I don't know what kind of a person she was in her private life, but her skin color means nothing to me. Sad that it seems to mean everything to you.

Yes! That's exactly how it has always been; those in power dictate everything, including history. Thus the NEED for a black history month. Well done MM.

Only if you consider a person's skin color important to history.

Were George Washington Carver, Geronimo, Gen. Patton, Alice Paul or the Navajo "Windtalkers" worthy of U.S. history books because of the color of their skin? Or were they worthy of the history books because of their contributions to the great nation the U.S. is today?

Everyone has this shallow vision of the dying 'going with grace and dignity.' Obviously, you've never watched anyone actually die before, have you?

I wonder how many know you shit and pis yourself upon dieing?

I would have no problem with a national civil rights month. Or a civil rights day. But making a whole month devoted to one of numerous downtrodden minorities and devoting a national holiday to only one person in a multitude who forged modern civil rights?

It's lip service, and if those who really respect minorities cared they'd see through it in a heartbeat. It's the kind of thing white PR people would come up with. Pick the most known name, toss a national holiday in his direction and hope it appeases people. Don't deal with how the Chinese suffered, don't deal with Native Americans, just toss black people a month and hope that'll do the trick.

The fact that they have been able to get by with it shows just how devoted to 'civil rights' and minority issues Liberal America really is. They spend more time picking out curtains.

jackie did not consort with race baiters like sharpton and jackson.

She didn't have to. She moved in a completely different circle of friends and didn't have to put up with them. I don't know the facts about the relationship between Mrs. King and Sharpton and Jackson, but (and as I'm about to make an assumption that might be making an Ass - Umption)they are the ones who probably seeked her out because she was the wife of MLK. Politics and ass kissing and all. Being the diplomat she is she didn't kick them to the curb.

I think she was a saint to put up with his personal life and stand by his side.

This is what I believe many people admired about her. She did put up with a lot, she did stand by her husband's side, she did protect her children in times of adversary, this is what most people remembered.

Sorry, she was a "first lady". Did her body lie in state? Nope.

I wondered why she was never accorded that honor? Mrs. Kennedy was a very private person and guarded her personal life fiercely. I think Mrs. King got that honor because the politician's in Georgia decided to do it. It didnt have to be that way but they did it obviously for political reasons, that and some guilt perhaps, who knows. At any rate good for her, she went out in style.

And of course the news media would televise her funeral. It's news isn't it?

Mrs. King was deeply involved in her church and other organizations, they would certainly give her a grand funeral.

Every politician who wanted to get votes would be there, and to make a spectacle of themselves would afford them notirety. Too bad they didn't show respect for her and keep the politics out of it.

As for Black History Month, well in the past the politicians who deemed February as such saw the need for it because of the past. Blacks were the largest minority then. Blacks are no longer the largest minority. The reasons for having a Black History Month should be revamped, but like a lot of things in this country that came about due to the actions of the past, February will continue to be celebrated that way. Who do you think is going to voice that it's time to do away with it? I definately don't believe that remembering Black History should only be focused in one month. It should be anytime that it's necessary, like in schools or whenever or wherever it's relevant.

As for White History month, why not? There should also be a Chinese History month and a Native American History Month. In fact, for every race that we have in this country, there should be a month to celebrate their history. I think that's a bloody good idea. And I'm not being sarcastic.
