America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
According to reporters they have the right to reveal national secrets.
By the rule of thumb used today If a reporter found out about the Manhattan Project or the exact time and day of the invasion of Europe in WWII it is there solemn duty to blast this kind of news all over the papers, the television news and any other outlet they desire to use to get a "headline"

I say these people are Traitors caring only for there own sick agenda, secularist that care not one whit for America, only caring for the moment of shining through in the national front. They are tools of the liberals and are in fact liberals themselves.

It's time to start holding reporters responsible for their actions on a federal level, with prison time for revealing the nations secrets.

Time to imprison some for their blatant skewing of the news, reporting falsehoods, slanting news or otherwise telling lies on a national or state level.

The circulation of many once great newspapers has fallen to an all time low due to there obvious hatred of America and the Bush administration.

This "freedom of the press" and its little brother "the people have a right to know" must be stopped.

I advise you to reread Gideon No, freedom of the press must NOT go, but rather ACCOUNTABILITY of the press must be restored.right on target.

the point I was making what is called freedom of the pres today is not freedom of press, it's the freedom to lie, cheat distort with impunity! come on now no one can be this dense.

An recent example of a reporter revealing national secrets is Bob Novak revealing the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame. The thing is, he's a conservative, not a liberal. And his source was a conservative, not a liberal. Maybe that was just a misprint in the article and they meant to say: "They are tools of the conservatives and are in fact conservatives themselves."

I really do not CARE WHAT SIDE OF THE AISLE THEY COME FROM, REVEALING NATIONAL SECRETS IS SUPPOSSED TO BE A CRIME AND IF DONE BY CONSERVATIVE, liberal martian whatever they should be held accountable. {sorry for caps}

Address the specific crime then. No one is arguing that there are reasonable limits and that revealing national secrets should be punished. Saying that freedom of the press is to blame is missing the mark. It's like saying Freedom of Religion is to blame for religious kooks bombing abortion clinics.

I'm reminded of a play I read in college:

MILNE: No matter how imperfect things are, if you've got a free press everything is correctable, and without it everything is concealable.

RUTH: I'm with you on the free press. It's the newspapers I can't stand.

-- Tom Stoppard, Night and Day, Act I

You may hate it, but without it the result would be intollerable.

I agree MM. But I think there is truth in much of journalism. You just have to look for it.

Remember your country's founding brain trust made this the first amendment for a good reason. They knew how difficult it would be to have a democracy where all of the citizens could participate on such a large scale as is America. They understood that large scale communication was the only way to achieve that so the press needed to be protected at all costs. The press (in all it's present forms), is simply the means by which all citizens can share ideas and opinion. Sure, there is lots of crap out there. Lots of lies. Lots of half-thuths. Lots of completely useless information too. The job of citizens is to sift through it all and find the truth and hopefully, with the truth in hand, work towards a better democracy.

I must respectfully disagree, it's the job of the press and media to report. truth. no 1/2 truths, not try to bring me to their side, no hidden or not so hidden agendas, walter winchell, edward r, murrow, chet huntly and david brinkly knew how to report the truth and let the reader or listener decide.

"national secrets" most of the time are but politicians holding free information close to their vests.
on Dec 16, 2005
If anyone still questions the incompetent laziness of the press, they need look no further than Hurricane Katrina coverage. Reporters heard rumors about all large number of murders and the bodies building up in the storage freezers... Not one "reporter" even thought to take a look around the building they were in to verify before they reported the rumors as fact.

That's not just incompetence, that is criminal legligence... and the entire "profession" let the incompetence stand without challenging the credibility or professionalism of the reporters at the Superdome.

Which again, leads be to wonder if there is an honest person anywhere in journalism today.
