Let us see if the left and right can define what a patriot means to them.

Just state how you see it, what you would do for your country.

What you would never do for your country.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

State your age and gender please.

I want to use any information I gather here for a thoughtfull article, all names shall be kept in my vault and will not be put out there with you opinions without your express permission.

I will post my stance on Patriots at a later day.

respectfully submitted,

elie,

I would also speak out and put appropriate actions behind those words when I felt that there was a problem in the country that needed to be addressed. If more was asked of me, I would do it so long as it did not harm my family or go against my moral beliefs. What you would never do for your country.Eat rat innards? (kidding) I would not do something illegal to further a cause that I felt was important for the well-being of the country. Beyond that, I'm not sure.If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.I have considered joining the military at times, but have decided against it because I would not want to leave my children for a year or more at a time. I am the one constant in their lives, and I wouldn't willingly take that away.If I were drafted, I would go and serve to the best of my ability. Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.Liberal.State your age and gender please.

no real suprises here tex, I have always known you are a dyed in the wool patriot, even if you are a "liberal" heh heh heh

I'll let a line from that song answer..."And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today...For there aint no doubt I love this land...God Bless the USA."(Lee Greenwood, Proud to be an American)

Not much. I don't think America needs to get even more screwed up than it already is.

What you would never do for your country.

Invade someplace for no apparent or good reason{s}.

If drafted to the armed military would you go? or run away.

Probably not. A) I can't really fight and I have yet to agree with most of our most recent wars.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

I'm a lefty, bordering on radical.

State your age and gender please

Female, 14

Cheers, Pads.

Interesting question. I can't imagine a circumstance where my life or death would ever threaten or save Australia, so I don't think I'd die for it. But I'll pay taxes, give to charity and try not to harm anyone. I'd also have a sense of humour, because that lies at the heart of being Australian.

Enter politics or performance art.

I think it's highly unlikely, but I would avoid the draft by working for whichever home department needs translators. It's a waste of my time and skills (whatever they are) to go and get slaughtered to hold a patch of desert, some godforsaken village or a hill. Leave warfare to the professionals I reckon.

Please state your politicsal leaning, does not matter what party, just the direction you lean.

Conservative (in the preserving Australia's traditional way of life way, not in the super-liberal version that seems to be the go these days), with a touch of welfare liberalism.

Its just going to be a fair compulation of age attitudes, gender attitudes and location thoughts cacto, I am hoping for more peoples input, or the example list will be to small to write about.

What would I do for my country?
My standard duties as a citizen... pay taxes, vote, follow the laws of the land... but also protest those laws when they are unreasonable, or question our leaders when I feel they are wrong. I do not think that being patriotic means going along blindly with those in power. I would also lend my talents to aid the US in defending itself from clear and present danger.

What would I not do for my country?
Kill. I will not kill another human being for my country. I will kill another human being in direct defense of other human beings, but I will not kill for the sake of a concept. I will also not break any laws or attempt to subvert laws (or the constitution) for the preceived "greater good" the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

If drafted, would I go?
Yes. While I may not agree with a given military action, it is my duty to serve if called on. However, due to my poor eyesight and objection to killing, I would not be able to in good conscience serve in combat. I would do my best to lend my talents to other areas of the military effort as best I could. Computers are an essential tool in modern combat not.

My political leaning
A bit left of the middle, but not by far. I have some definite liberal leanings and some definite conservative leanings... just a few more left than right
