America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
DING DONG THE WICKED BILL IS DEAD
Published on June 7, 2007 By Moderateman In US Domestic

The Bush Immigration Bill which came so close to granting everyone and their mother amnesty and a path to citizenship regardless if they were criminals or not, is dead. I was against this bill from the very beginning as I felt it was unfair and disrespectful to so many people that have come to America legally, waited their turn, did the right thing. To see that people were going to be given the gift of citizenship after breaking the law to enter the country ILLEGALLY just made me sick and angered me on so many levels I cannot begin to start a list.

The Senate could not muster enough votes for cloture... so yes the bill has died an ignoble dead, Just the kind of death this bill deserved.

That's okay. We'll revisit this issue again after we have a Democrat as President in 2008.

Kind of a strange response considering it was the current Republican president that was pushing so hard for this. Are you saying the Dems deliberately killed the bill just because the current president is a Republican? If so, they're pretty stupid and childish don't you think?

The simple fact is that bill in question was not the solution to the problem. Enforcement of current laws, a streamlining of the immigration process, and real border security are the answers. Anything that allows for amnesty for illegals and puts them ahead of those who obeyed the immigration laws is not going to sit well with the American public and those senators know it.

Case in point is the recent arrest of a man in Virginia. He is an illegal who has been caught and deported not once but twice was back yet again and killed someone while driving drunk. The fact that he had been deported twice in the past and was back yet again demonstrates a serious problem with our border security.

you tell her mason, the way amy is talking about this you would think this was a Democtatic bill defeated by Republicans, but this is what I have come to expect from democrats, even clear thinking ones.

you really want your taxes raised that bad huh? well when a Republican wins just send me another 6% of all your money and pretend a Democrat is in office..

The tax and spend Republicans have done an awful good job of running up our budget deficit. Unfortunately, both parties have quite an appetite for pork.

and free medical, subsidized housing, point credits on their SATS because they can spell their names right.

It seems to me that it was during Bill Clinton's presidency that welfare reform was made law. I think there should be a safety net so no child (yes, my heart is bleeding) starves but I do think our welfare programs cost too much and cover too much. I don't want to see the welfare state expanded. I would like to see it shrunk a bit. Maybe I'm not a true Democrat.   Yikes - how embarassing.

yes they do, But Bush restored the economy and has raised the amount of income to the government by giving tax cuts. The dems will raise taxes and destroy the economy in doing so.

I too believe in lending a helping hand to those in need Amy, Welfare has its good points, it's when a family is on its third generation of Welfare I begin to see a pattern I do not like. Get a job damn it!

Yeah it was never intended to be a way of life.

If this bill was not the solution to this problem....then what IS the solution?

Is the celebrated defeat of this bill going to cause some miraculous change? Or are things going to continue down the same road?

Seriously, what is the solution? I'm curious as to what is going to happen now...

I dunno rose, but this bill was not. I say we start with some serious border security first, first and first.

Is the celebrated defeat of this bill going to cause some miraculous change? Or are things going to continue down the same road?

More of the same rose sorry to say, but come on now since when do we reward criminals? and that is what this defeated bill was doing.

I have no Idea what will happen now rose, how about you put forth a few Ideas?

Only because a Republican controlled House and Senate made it so. Quit giving Clinton credit for reforms he opposed.

how dare you not bow at the alter of CLINTON!!! here is how this works, if the result are good it was because Bill was president, if the result were bad it is because the Congress was controlled by REPUBLICAN EVIL BASTAGES.

See this was the DEMONCRAPS never lose.

In todays world it works the same way, If the results are bad, BLAME BUSH, BLAME BUSH, if the results SEEM good it is because the DEMOCRAPS control both houses, again the DEMOCRAPS win either way.

Bill Clinton promised to "end welfare as we know it" during the 1992 presidential campaign and told even his Democratic audiences that public assistance should be "a second chance, not a way of life."

Clinton signed the welfare reform legislation on August 22, 1996.

The final lesson is the value of some bipartisanship. Although welfare reform was mainly a Republican project, President Clinton (who had pledged to "end welfare as we know it") provided general support, as did many Democrats who voted for the final bill.

Amy? Bill is one smart politician as everyone knows, which is why he was elected two times, something very rare these days. His appeal was that he also appealed to centrist republicans { I was a registered Democrat at the time}. He did wonders for the American economy. But it was his weak foreign policy that led to sept.11, along with Carters no answer to Iran kidnapping Americans and holding them for 444 days till Ronald Reagan took office. Bill had his good points and I voted for him not once but two times, I am still proud of those votes, But Bill is not the Savior some people think he was. His promise to end lifetime welfare was a Republican Platform, something he knew he could get passed and credit for because he knew the right already supported it along with the left. He knew this before hand, before he was elected, before he took office, it was a safe bet and a safe statement to make, a safe promise to keep as it took no effort on his part to make it happen.

I'm not saying that Bill Clinton, Super President, single handedly reformed welfare and leaped tall buildings in a single bound. I am disputing what Whip said that he opposed welfare reform. If he ran on it, he didn't oppose it.

I voted for Bill Clinton too. That was my first Presidential election.
