America has problems, but America is NOT THE PROBLEM!~
Published on November 2, 2006 By Moderateman In Ethics

Are the arguments for eugenics gaining momentum in America? Eugenics is the platform for improving the human race by applying the same principal we use with plants, vegetables and animals.

Supposedly the application of eugenics will develop better, healthier, smarter and stronger human beings.

Adolph Hitler and his regime experimented with eugenics in trying to build a "master race".

I am wondering if any of you folks see the benefits of eugenics or do you think it is an abomination?

Someone once remarked that we have been practicing Eugenics with race horses for hundreds of years, yet the records have not dropped dramatically.  Indeed, some have not changed in many years.

We have not been practicing it with people, yet records in athletic events have been falling steadily and continuosly for years.

Playing God does not seem to be all it has cracked up to be.

I agree with this statement.

I've heard about this before Elie, I'm not sure I like the idea either. I can see there would be some benefits, where health and finding ways to improve people's lifestyles in that they live better are concerned, however, the implications and ramifications from this are limitless (might not be the right word I'm looking for here).

I'm all for science improving our lives and the way we live. I also know that we can't have science without experiments, but there's got to be a different way.

we use eugenics today to make stronger animals such as cow for more meat. it has been proven eugenics work, why not improve the human race, eliminate disease, autisim and such?

we are already playing God messing around wit cloning, test tube babies,
I can see the benifit of bettering the human race.

We would then have to control child birthing world wide, as the world would become so over populated. We already live longer now than way back when, surely this would pose all sorts of problems and strains on the resources required to live and feed etc.

Oh, there's benefit...with Hitler...well, he killed people he deemed as "imperfect", that's where the real flaw in his approach popped up.

There's a movie about this...but for the life of me I can't remember the title.

Aha! Found it...the movie is called, "Gattaca"

Here's a description:

The futuristic thriller Gattaca invites audiences to enter an alternate future in which "designer people" forged in test tubes rule society and genetics determine a person's future. In this world, a person with the right genetic stuff can do anything; but a person with even a slight defect or even potential for a defect is a prisoner of his own biological cells. The film stars Ethan Hawke as Vincent Freeman, a young man determined to break out of his imperfect genetic destiny and see his dreams of traveling into space come true.

Remember Khan?  Do we really want that?  WHile I am Catholic, and it is against the teachings (not the tenets) of my religion, I am against it for the Pandora's Box reason.

And Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

The problem with Eugenics is, who gets to decide which human traits are the most desireable and which will be weeded out?

could be, but the people would be perfect, so we would need less of them.

Oh, they're still killing those they feel will be a burden on society. They just refuse to call them people, and prefer the term 'fetus'. The whole push for government sponsored welfare abortions and such are just ways of making sure we have as few kids from the wrong side of the tracks as possible. The whole abortion movement is grounded in eugenics.
